Why complex hernias need a different process

Complex hernias may involve previous mesh, multiple prior repairs, infection history, large defects, poor tissue quality, off-midline anatomy, or loss of domain. These factors can affect the safest approach and the durability of repair.

Planning often includes CT imaging review, operative record review, risk optimization, and discussion of whether a staged or coordinated approach is needed.

Recurrent hernia

Off-midline defect
